Zoom Confessions, Bare Feet & Black Yoga Balls
Thank you for sending me your Zoom stories, tips, props and recently your footwear confessions. I must have seen and heard enough about what goes on from the waist down on Zoom to fill another book!
It’s surprising how many of you like barefoot conferencing! Love it.
Keep them coming esther@estherstanhope.com
I’m still chuckling about my client Karen (a U.S attorney) and her Zoom Footwear Confession! (Pictured above)
she emailed me…
“Definitely no shoes! 👠 I generally sit with both heels facing one another in a yoga pose (not sure of the name)”
By the way it’s Baddha Konasana or Cobblers pose Karen! LOL.
“This forces me to sit up straight and breathe through my diaphragm. I should mention that I am off camera whilst doing this. (Notice the very British vernacular I coloured there?)”
Thank you for sharing , Karen, I thoroughly approve of the seating position and the barefoot choice.
Another hilarious email is from Barrister Antony Sendall, who confesses to not only wearing no shoes (and sometimes no clothes at all) during tele-conferences, he once obtained a court injunction dressed in only a creased t-shirt and boxer shorts.
The one thing that really gets me giggling is his choice of seat…his exercise ball…
“I confess that I have spent 10 days examining and cross-examining witnesses and making submissions whilst sitting on my big black ball…
…I do have to resist bouncing up and down too much, but I have rolled back and forth and side to side a fair bit during the trial.
If I stand up quickly it does make a sudden bid for freedom and risks being seen as it rolls into shot behind me, but I am fairly sure my clients have not noticed it appear on screen, because I am sure they would tell me, so I am guessing it remains my little guilty secret…up until now!”
Thank you Antony, I love the idea of a bouncing barrister!
So my question to you is what do you sit on?
The infamous Marcelo Bielsa (Football manager for Premier League club Leeds United) chooses a blue, branded bucket to sit on for high profile footy matches. He says it gives him the “perfect vantage point to see play on the pitch” (I thought it was for lower back problems!)
I have a kneeling chair and I must say it’s really annoying. Standing suits me when I ‘perform’ on live Zoom masterclasses as I now have a Yo-Yo desk – yes it does what it says on the tin – it goes up and down easily!
My client Clare has a bright blue posture chair with neck support – and I like the look of that.
So, please, I would like some inspiration. Your Zoom seating suggestions are very welcome here, please do tell… esther@estherstanhope.com
P.S Did you know my book WON the Highly Commended Short Business Book of the Year Award 2020?
