Virtual B.D (Biz Development) – is it Possible?

“Our business development has been put on hold for a year”

One of my clients (from a medium professional service firm) confessed that’d put their business development “BD”on hold last year because they believed it was …

“a waste of time to try virtual relationship building; too difficult to …chat face to face, socialise and build a rapport when you’re not in the room, on the golf course!

Luckily I convinced him otherwise …my message?

Welcome to the NEXT NORMAL!

I shared this with him and if you haven’t been doing this already – listen up.

You CAN win business in the virtual world.  You have to adapt as this way of working is going to continue for some time isn’t it?

A year on and we’re not going back to 100% face to face for a while yet. So, my advice?

DO focus on B.D (business development) and run virtual events where you can build a rapport , have a bit of fun as well as ‘do’ meaningful conversations ….yes. You can achieve this …if you know how!

And you don’t have to rely on virtual wine tasting to make it fun! (Although who doesn’t like a Pinot Noir?)

As you know camera comms is THE number one business skill of the year!

Luckily because of my BBC background and 20 years in broadcasting – I have tons of really helpful tips and tricks that will transform the way you take advantage of video comms.  So in terms of quick fix Zoom or TEAMS calls….you can be more engaging for your client TODAY!

2 Quick Fix Simple Tips ….to do today!

1      Look at your lens (not your screen) – this is ‘cheat’ eye contact & it works! There’s a video about it here!

2      Engage! Interact and use technology. Use your polls, chat function, and reaction buttons as much as possible – allow the audience to get involved. This will keep them engaged.

Many of my clients have been investing in my interactive programs because it helps their teams (particularly pitch teams) build a rapport with clients and enjoy the virtual nature of conversations rather than resent unpleasant & awkward ZOOMBIE calls.
